Delayed Rays of a Star, 2016
Delayed Rays of a Star is a custom-made and programmed camera. Built with five centrally conjoined selfie sticks, it is intended for use by five participants whose individual selfies are taken simultaneously and algorithmically woven into a new image that is then automatically posted to the work's dedicated social media feed. The camera is presented mounted on a chromed female mannequin, becoming a literal embodiment of both the digital prosthesis of the camera and the potential for distributed agency in the selfie. A functioning replica of the camera is available for demonstration on appointment with the artist.
