myShrine, 2015
myShrine.org is a participatory Internet artwork that recasts the participant's personal Facebook page into a shrine with real-time burning candles, table dressings and a central 'profile' image all algorithmically attributed according to the user's public Facebook data. Not only does this work heighten our awareness of social media as a self-made memento mori, raising notions of the digital pristine, celebrity, and digital death, but it also opens questions of the use of this personal data, and specifically of the human face, in social media.
